Dr Patricia Newell

Dr. Patricia Newell graduated from the University of Otago Medical School in 1991. She began her specialist training in anaesthesia at Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand, completing it at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2001.

Dr. Newell holds public appointments at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Mercy Hospital for Women. She also works regularly at The Epworth Hospital in Richmond, St Vincent’s Private Hospital, and Mulgrave Private Hospital.

Her areas of usual practice are anaesthesia for obstetrics, gynaecology, orthopaedic surgery, breast and endocrine surgery, urology, colorectal surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and neurosurgery.

Dr. Newell has a special interest in education, regularly instructing on the Australian Resuscitation Council’s Advanced Life Support course. She is involved in the CRASH course, which is a training and refresher program in the management of anaesthetic emergencies, and the PROMPT obstetric critical incident management course at the Mercy Hospital for Women.

Dr. Newell is an active participant in the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetist’s Continuing Medical Education Program.
