Dr Gilbert graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1997. His advanced training in anaesthesia took place at The Austin Hospital, The Northern Hospital, The Mercy Hospital for Women, and the Royal Children's Hospital. He undertook subsequent specialist fellowship training in neurosurgical anaesthesia at Vancouver General Hospital, British Columbia, Canada.

He works regularly at several private hospitals throughout Melbourne, including The Epworth, Cabrini, Western Private, Melbourne Private, and The Mercy.

Dr Gilbert's areas of interest include neurosurgery, laparoscopic & bariatric surgery, obstetrics, orthopaedics, endoscopy and ambulatory surgery.

Dr Gilbert participates in ongoing professional development with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and is a member of the Australian Medical Association.
