Dr Julia Clarke obtained her medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 1990. She trained in anaesthesia at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, achieving her Fellowship to The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in the year 2000.

Dr Clarke is currently a visiting consultant at The Mercy Hospital for Women, as well as working regularly at The Epworth Freemasons, Holmesglen Hospital, Knox Private Hospital and Digestive Health Centre in Dandenong.

Her special interests are in the management of anaesthesia for obstetrics and gynaecology, in particular anaesthesia for reconstructive gynaecology, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She also has a special interest in education, completing her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education through the University of Dundee. She has been the Supervisor of Anaesthetic Registrar Training at the Mercy Hospital, and she is currently involved in running the PROMPT program at the Mercy, which is a multi-professional training program in the management of obstetric emergencies.

Dr Clarke is a member of the Australian Medical Association, and is an active member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Continuing Professional Development Programme.
